What does a digital metal supply chain look like?

Whether you are a producer, a processor or a manufacturer, do you know where the material that passes through your ‘hands’ has come from or where it is going too?

The impending EU regulations coming in 2021 require a higher level of supply chain transparency regarding the responsible sourcing of minerals.

At SAFE we like to share our experience in supply chain digitisation and transparency. Some key points and conclusions of our recent knowledge sharing are listed below:

  • The increasing importance of Environmental, Social and Government (ESG) considerations for investors is making companies ESG efforts the driving force in unlocking the availability of capital. i.e if companies are unable to demonstrate best-efforts mitigating ESG risks then they will find it harder to attract investment in the future

    • SAFE due diligence and accreditation is the leading framework that investors look to for supply chain transparency and traceability in their investments.

  • Downstream companies and processors are being targeted new regulations and must demonstrate that they have employed best-efforts to ensure they can assess, monitor, report on and mitigate risks all the way along their supply chains

    • SAFE has partnered with Squire Patton Boggs, one of the top conflict mineral legal advice firms in the world to provide advice on current and future regulation in coordination with relevant business process change and technology implementations

  • Upstream actors will be forced to make their supply chains visible to downstream actors or risk losing market share and pricing power

    • SAFE digitally maps your supply chain, providing you with a transparent digital platform designed to prove traceability of your metal to regulators, consumers and other stakeholders.

  • Companies who are suspected of violating responsible practices are increasingly facing legal action and reputation damage

    • SAFE accreditation allows companies to have peace of mind by ensuring their policies and practices comply with the most stringent regulations

SAFE provides standardised tools to help customers create digital maps of their supply chain. This reveals points of weakness and strength and becomes the backbone of all SAFE analysis; legal, commercial and technical.

The below image is an example of a real world supply chain map that has been designed for one of our customers:
